Waymo's Autonomous Vehicles Set to Arrive London Streets in 2026.

The US-based enterprise Waymo has declared that its self-driving taxis will be operational for hire on London's roads beginning next year.

London Becomes Pioneering European City for Autonomous Ride-Hailing.

The UK capital will be established as the inaugural European city to launch an autonomous taxi service, akin to those already operational in multiple US cities and several American urban centers using Waymo's cutting-edge systems.

Initial Operations to Start with Trained Operators.

Waymo confirmed that its fleet are presently traveling to London and will commence operating on the city's public roads in the coming weeks with safety drivers supervising the vehicles.

Waymo – originally established as a offshoot from Google's autonomous vehicle program and belonging to the same parent group – indicated it would increase services and collaborate with the Department for Transport and the city's mobility organization to obtain the essential licenses to deliver totally self-driving services by 2026.

Waymo presently has ties to Britain after launching its first European engineering hub in Oxford in 2019.

The company is also starting services in Tokyo using Jaguar Land Rover EVs, marking its second existing operation outside the US.

“We've demonstrated how to effectively grow completely driverless taxi services, and we look forward to extend the advantages of our systems to the Britain,” said the company executive, explaining that the innovation was “improving road safety and travel more inclusive”.

Waymo launched its autonomous vehicles in 2020 and presently reports it has carried over 10 million riders in the US.
