Formula 1 competitor Liam Lawson stated he came dangerously close to a potentially fatal incident during Sunday's F1 event in Mexico when a pair of track officials darted across the track right in his path

The concerning event happened on the third circuit when safety workers were observed on the circuit as Lawson was getting back on the race following an quick visit to the pits to change his broken nose section

Driver's Immediate Reaction

Immediately after, the team's competitor Lawson spoke to his race engineer saying: "Are you kidding me? Could you believe what happened? I might have... taken their lives"

"I truly couldn't comprehend what I was witnessing"

"I rejoined with a brand new hard tyres, and then I approached Turn One and suddenly there were two guys sprinting across the track"

"I came close to striking one of them, honestly, it was so dangerous"

Security Issues Highlighted

"Obviously there's been a communication breakdown somehow but I've never experienced that before, and I haven't really seen that in the past. It's completely unacceptable"

"We can't understand how on a live track track officials can be authorized to just dash across the track in that manner. I'm clueless about the cause, I'm confident we'll get some kind of clarification, but this absolutely cannot recur"

Governing Body Reviewing

F1's overseeing organization, the global motorsport federation, is actively examining the events

"Subsequent to a first corner event, track officials was informed that fragments were located on the track at the turning point of that curve" stated the FIA

"During the third lap, track officials were notified and placed on standby to go onto the racing surface and clear the fragments once every vehicle had gone by"

"Immediately when it was understood that Lawson had made a pit stop, the orders to send marshals were canceled and a caution signal was displayed in that section"

"Our inquiry continues what happened following that moment"
